Transitions and Displacements: For a Liquid Approach │ 10th July - 6th August 2020

"Transitions" and "displacements" are the objects of reflection of the works on display from 10 July to 6 August 2020 at Millepiani Space in Rome. The concept of the two terms are a reference to the "liquid" vision of the contemporary philosophy.
Transitions, displacements and condition changes are the prerogatives of a fluid approach to reality, prerogatives of a free change in the state of things that allows full organic adherence to the environment and context in which each subject / object is immersed .
The works on display represent an excursus on the subject, addressed both from a physical, chemical and biological and from a social, cultural and political point of view.

“Panta rhei” is a philosophical expression referred to the theory of ‘becoming’, according to which nothing stays the same when experiencing the flow of time. On the contrary, as the seconds, minutes, hours pass and fly by, “everything flows”, changes, evolves, going through a transition phase.
Though being this topic difficult to embrace all at once and confined within a univocal description, at the exhibition one will find digital works inspired by various sources and supported by assorted visions.
When referring to the human transition, for example, diverse artists considered as many aspects as resulted from their varied contemplations. Some of their pictures deal with the body, whether shown off or hidden, changing or growing, flourishing or ageing, blossoming or withering, ripening or spoiling. Gradually or suddenly - once dates, sudden changes, unexpected traumas and non-planned sorrows interrupt the regular flow of life one is accustomed to.

Instead, others draw attention to the movement, trying to catch and freeze a jump, a move, a pose considered as human features in need of completeness - once (and if ever) reached.
In a wider sense, transitions can be also interpreted as topical processes, as migratory acts, as well as temporary or permanent transfers from a place to another, willing to begin a new path or to obey necessity. It is a flow which is never constant but always existing. It can be a long journey for some people, while it means spending two-three hours per day commuting for some others.

In other imaginaries, displacement can be intended as a solemn procession, a pilgrimage towards a sacred place. Transitions are the long shadows in the sunset, some strangers running into each other by mistake, on whichever morning, in any city of the world. Changes are shaped like the majestic stride of silent individuals, enclosed in their spirituality as they represent something new - a different life, the eyes full of hope.
Not to mention the ones looking at “Transitions & Displacements” with a more comprehensive gaze, a cross-cultural perspective. While the artists’ focus lies on nowadays’ tension, their use of techniques such as blurring and overlapping expresses precise choices. Their multilayered visuality, made of a wide range of contents, mixes up multiple timeframes: a moment that has already passed, the here and now with a forthcoming instant. It will occur in a short while, maybe tomorrow. Or perhaps never.
