The first collective exhibition of 2025 at Spazio Millepiani in Rome opens a dialogue on universal and transversal themes that shape our existence, both as individuals and as part of a collective.
Drawing on Zygmunt Bauman’s concept of the “liquid” nature of contemporary society—marked by shifting relationships and connections—the exhibition explores the myriad ways in which people and things are interwoven. The definitions of the words in the exhibition’s title, Contacts and Connections, reveal phrases like “intimate union between two or more things,” “bond of close relationship and interdependence between events,” “close juxtaposition of two bodies,” and “rapport.” These ideas suggest an invisible thread that binds people together in various forms of relationships and links humans to objects and the world around them.
This concept lies at the heart of the exhibition, reflected in the gallery spaces where the works recount what the artists’ eyes have seen and the thoughts these observations have inspired. The selected images, digital works, and videos form a spatial-temporal continuum, connecting the present with the past and future. Visitors are reminded that an image is never an end in itself—it always implies a cause and generates an effect. The visual fragments—often rendered in black and white, a chromatic scale that lends a poetic and timeless quality to the works—tell diverse stories, all of which are interconnected.

Among the wide spectrum of expressive possibilities explored by the artists, two main types of connections emerge: those that bind people to one another and those that highlight the interdependence between humans and nature. These relationships are captured in intimate moments between the depicted subjects, where gazes, intertwined hands, and touching bodies are recurring elements. Other works showcase various communities and groups, from friends to siblings and twins. In yet other pieces, human bodies—often presented in their most authentic form, nudity—seem to merge with their surroundings, almost disappearing into the environment.

Ultimately, Contacts and Connections invites viewers to reflect on the relational nature of our existence, offering a perspective that is both intimate and universal. The works remind us that every contact, every connection—whether fleeting or profound—contributes to weaving the intricate fabric of human experience. This visual journey explores the beauty and fragility of the bonds that unite us, both with one another and with the world we inhabit, prompting us to question who we are and how we relate to what surrounds us.
